The summer is here and even though that means the kids are out of school and vacations are frequent it also means it’s hurricane season. I wanted to share with our readers what Compuquip is doing to prepare for any storms. Our goal has always been to focus on disaster prevention versus disaster recovery however during hurricane season it’s always great to go through these steps:

Update all Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Information
Our team has completed a full review of all documentation related to BCP and DR planning. Like most of you we have made investments in our technology over the past year and some team members have changed so it was a good exercise.
Update Employees on Storm Preparation Best Practices
We recently sent out a note to all employees sharing with them some best practices to help them be prepared for the storm. We have often found our team rushing at the last minute to prepare their homes for a hurricane when if they would have taken the time before the panic and media hype things would be a lot less hectic. This is a great resource for a quick disaster check list.
Verify Backups are Working Properly
We test our backups and that of our clients at least twice a year and document our findings. This is a good time to review your last backup verification and also review the selection list (what files/systems are actually being backed up). For our clients that want more details on this please contact your Technical Account Manager.
Verify all internal systems are prepped
We went through the exercise of verifying all of our computer systems (not just in the server room but also the desktops) are plugged into a fully operational UPS (uninterruptable power supply).
Don’t Panic
This is probably the most obvious step but also the most difficult. When a storm approaches the media loves to hype the potential damage and focus on the showing the cone of destruction (the projected path of storms). We remind our team to get prepared ahead of time and then stay focused on delivering a great service to our clients. For updates on all the storms and tracking their movements we recommend following the National Hurricane Center.
If you have any questions on what needs to be done please don’t hesitate to contact us by emailing us a support[dot]Compuquip[dot]com.
