NO…
And my intention is not to sound mean or come across like a tough guy but that’s the truth. Let me give you an example of a conversation I have had more than a dozen times with clients, usually 12 to 18 months into a partnership with us:
Client: We are really happy with your service but can you lower your fee?
Me: Why?

Being in IT all of my professional career, this is an odd post to write. The IT industry talks a lot about documentation (which could be considered writing) but for many its just lip service. Let’s face it, we’re in IT and we don’t like to write. Code, sure. Command line for troubelshooting, even better. But writing out thoughts or correspondence is torture for most of us.
All that being said, I strongly believe in the importance of good writing and I wanted to share my top 3 reasons on why we should focus more on writing as a means of communication.
Reason #1 – Clear Writing means Clear Thinking
This is the main reason why I love communicating through writing with my team. We live in a wild world of distractions and many of us barely have time to focus on a single task for more than 5 minutes. Even while I write this post I’ve received five emails and two text messages. Wow, no wonder some of my past writing has been erratic! If you force someone to write out their thoughts and send via email, you’ll be amazed on how well thought out and concise their thoughts are (or maybe be scared by learning the opposite). Writing forces that clarity in thought and preparation to deliver a clear message.
