Recently we had an incident with a client that was a classic example of why Service Recovery is just as important as Service Delivery.
We’re in the service business which means we’re constantly working with our clients to resolve problems. They rarely call to thank you for keeping the network up and running, but they’re quick to call and complain when their laptop hiccups or if they can’t access the internet. At times it can be a thankless job but that’s just the business that we’re in. Fortunately for us, we have Alex, our Client Services Manager, Lin, our Service Desk Supervisor, and our awesome Support Team that takes great care of our clients.
I had to go 34,000 feet in the air to disconnect…
Some planes are now offering WiFi in flight, which I think is both a blessing and a curse at the same time. I love being connected and it seems I’m connected 24/7 whether I’m at the office, at home or even out on the road with my iPhone. My recent trip to San Francisco gave me a rare opportunity to disconnect for 6 hours during the flight to the west coast.
I have never liked to share, and certainly not with potential competitors…
After years of resistance, Compuquip recently joined a peer group of technology services providers called HTG. I have to be honest, I was one of the main people voting against it for quite some time. Technology as an industry is always undercutting each other and everything new comes out faster, cheaper, and cooler so we’re always looking for an edge. Growing up in the IT services industry I was a believer in not sharing information with competitors. But after meeting with a few local ‘competitors’ in the Miami area and sharing information, I began to see the value in a peer group.
When you want to find out how to get somewhere, one typically pulls out a road map from the glove compartment – or nowadays the iPhone Map app. Regardless of the means, the objective is getting to your destination as efficiently and inexpensively as possible. You wouldn’t embark on a long journey without a map and you certainly wouldn’t jump into a business-changing technology decision without one either. In the IT services industry, this is referred to as a Technology Roadmap. It plots the state of your technology infrastructure as of today and where you would like it to be 2-3 years down the road. Before we go further down the roadmap, you need to first perform a network assessment. This evaluation of your systems determines what items need to be addressed today and which should be addressed tomorrow. Based on this information, you can integrate priority and timing into your Technology Roadmap – which together leads to phased IT projects.
