The purpose of an audit is typically to determine whether or not the areas under review are following prudent business and administrative practices consistent with the mission of the organization and the laws or requirements of external authorities. For most people being audited, the audit process is one of uncertainty, unpredictability, and uneasiness. The job of an IT auditor is to ensure that the IT department is following company policies along with safeguarding assets and ensuring data integrity. The process of preparing for an audit is tiring, frantic and sometimes grueling. As scary as the audit process appears, it is even more concerning when an audit does not go well as poor results can be costly to an organization.
