A Look Back At Our 2011 Technical Team

As we begin the New Year, I thought it would be a good time to look back at the highlights (and some lowlights) of 2011, followed by a look ahead to 2012.

2011 was a great year for Continuing Technical Education Something that has been of focus of mine since I arrived to Compuquip 2 ½ years ago is to instill a culture in our Technical and Service Delivery staff that Professional Development and Continuing Technical Education is something you should want to do, not something you should have to do. I think 2011, especially towards the latter half, is when we turned the corner on this. As such, I’d like to congratulate the following engineers for taking this message to heart in 2011.

  • Leo
    • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), Exchange 2010
    • VMware Certified Professional (VCP), vSphere 5 (was previously certified in vSphere 4)
    • VMware Certified Associate Desktop (VCA-DT), View 4.6
  • Miguel
  • Yurack
    • CompTia Network +
    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), Windows 2008 Network Infrastructure
    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), Windows 2008 Active Directory
  • Ruddy
    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), Windows 2008 Network Infrastructure
  • Albert
    • VMware Certified Professional (VCP), vSphere 4.1
    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), Exchange 2010
  • Jim and Devin
    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), Windows 7

Recruiting is a year-round activity and is not to be taken for granted While we’ve had some great additions to the Compuquip family in 2011, we unfortunately also lost some great teammates along the way. Having led the charge in keeping our technical staff at full force, I can personally attest to this being one of my biggest struggles since about June. Once we identify a need for a new hire, especially at the higher-end of the technical spectrum, it’s usually a 60 day + period involving several staffing firms and a dozen or more interviews.  We recently hired a new HR Manager that will be a great help in this arena.

Going forward, one of Compuquip’s goals is to get on that short list of companies on the ‘Best Place to Work in South Florida’ list. Not only will this improve our retention rate (which are very good right now; average tenure is over 4 years which is great for IT), but should ensure a steady pool of great candidates should they be needed.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this look back; stay tuned for the “look ahead to 2012”!
