A Look Ahead at our 2012 Technical Team

As a follow-up to a recent blog post that looked back at 2011, let’s now look ahead to 2012.

Looking ahead to 2012 it’s looking like a great year for Compuquip. Even so, this is not a time for us to stand still.

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it”

While this quote can be attributed to the immortal Ferris Bueller, these are words to live by in the technology industry. As such, these are some of the items that Compuquip will be working on in the coming year:

More Continuing Technical Education This needs to be a year-round, every year activity for our staff. Some of the Technology and Certifications that we’ll be working on include:

  • VMware VCP 5 Compuquip currently has 6 VCPs on staff and we are looking to update them all to the latest version (1 down, 5 to go!). We also have at least 1 more to add to the list, who has been scheduled to be sent to training in February (good luck, Ruddy!).
  • Virtual Desktops Virtualization does not stop at the Server level any more. I’ve personally seen more activity and interest in Virtual Desktops from Small and Medium Business (our core constituency) in the last 6 months than any time before; Compuquip has 1 Vmware Desktop Certified engineer on staff and we’ll be looking to add at least 2 or 3 more in 2012
  • Certified Cisco Internetworking Expert (CCIE) the Holy Grail for Network Engineers, Peter, just back from a CCIE training bootcamp, is targeting this for a June 2012 timeframe. Also, Virtualization does not stop at the Desktop level either. Networking is a key component of VMware environments since version 4.0 was released, and looks to be even more important as they develop their vCloud and vShield suite of products. Hopefully, VCP is another designation Peter will be adding to his list in 2012.

Voice-over-IP VOIP has not traditionally been a core offering from Compuquip, although this will change in 2012. Thanks to our Partners at Mitel, Compuquip is focusing on developing the expertise and support capabilities to add Mitel IP-Telephony to the list along other key technologies like Dell, VMware, and Microsoft as one of our Core Technology Offerings. Keep an eye out on the Compuquip blog for information on Mitel’s Cloud-based VOIP solution, and Mitel’s success in being the only VOIP vendor who is able to Virtualize their entire workload on VMware.

Greater Apple Expertise While Compuquip has supported Mac and iOS devices for some time now, these are technologies that are currently underserved in the industry. As such Compuquip will be joining the Apple Consultants Network, specifically focusing on the new Mobility specialization. iPads and iPhones are no longer just toys, but key business enablers; this is only the beginning as business owners are just beginning to realize the productivity gains that can be had by putting this technology to good use. By taking part in this new program offered by Apple, Compuquip hopes to be the Trusted Advisor for our customers in this arena as well.

Here’s to another great year at Compuquip!
