Where do you go if you really need to get work done???
This past weekend someone asked me why they got a few emails from me on Sunday morning at 4:45am. I said ‘that’s when I was working’ and they immediately thought I was crazy. It’s true, it’s quiet, the phone is not ringing, emails are slamming my inbox, even twitter is quiet.
Jason Fried, from 37Signals, did a presentation on the modern work place environment and he focuses on people and productivity (I highly recommend checking it out). He goes on to say that if you ask people where they are most productive or where they go to really get work done, very rarely do they say ‘my office’. For me, early morning on the weekends is when I get the majority of my work done.
As a matter of fact, during a meeting this week with our Director of Finance, we were discussing a new position we’re recruiting for and one of the bullets on the job description is ‘flexible work environment’. This is moving away from being a ‘perk’ to becoming a part of the office environment, especially with the generation entering the work force today. They don’t want to be chained to their desk 8 to 10 hours a day; they want to make a difference.
One of the driving forces is our business has transformed from the traditional hourly billing to more proactive managed services. As a matter of fact over 50% of our work is providing these proactive services. This removes the restriction of the entire team being clocked and focuses the team on delivering on results like meeting Service Level Agreements and working towards 100% Client Satisfaction.
So I ask you again…where do you go if you really need to get work done? We Would love to hear your responses
